About MetriTech

MetriTech is an assessment contractor in Champaign, Illinois that hires TESOL-certified scorers to work from home. Scorers read handwritten adult ESL writing tests from English proficiency certification exams given worldwide and score them with rubrics and scoring guides. The job pays an hourly W-2 wage that MetriTech does not publish, and the 12 to 15 hours of training are paid. Paychecks come every two weeks by direct deposit or mailed paper check, and MetriTech describes the current project as ongoing, with shifts seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Who can apply

You must live and work in Arizona, Florida, Illinois or Texas and hold an M.A. in TESOL or a completed 120-hour TESOL, TEFL or CELTA certificate, since a state ESOL endorsement does not qualify, plus a bachelor's degree and experience teaching English learners from high school through adult levels. Applicants take three online pre-employment tests and must pass end-of-training tests. This is a seasonal, part-time W-2 employee role that requires at least 20 hours a week and a six-month commitment, so it is less flexible than most gigs.
