About ICON Clinical Research Units

ICON runs Phase 1 clinical drug studies, mostly in healthy volunteers, at research units in San Antonio, Lenexa and Salt Lake City. Participants take an investigational drug, stay overnight in the clinic for anywhere from 1 to 32 nights, give repeated blood samples and return for follow-up visits. Pay is set per study and is for time and travel; on October 11, 2026, San Antonio listings ranged from up to $2,850 for same-day dosing to up to $24,115 for a 32-night stay and up to $43,000 for a long obesity study, and ICON pays up to $500 for referrals. You must finish the study visits to receive the full amount.

Who can apply

You must be a US resident and pass a screening visit. Most studies are for ages 18 to 55 or 18 to 65, and some are for healthy people while others are for people who are overweight. These are investigational-drug studies with inpatient stays and blood draws, so read each study's consent form, which also explains the payment schedule.
