About ETS Raters

ETS hires raters to score essays, short written answers, spoken responses and portfolios for tests such as the GRE, TOEFL, TOEIC and Praxis. Most scoring is done online from home through ETS's scoring system after training and certification. Pay rates are not published. Raters are part-time variable employees paid through ETS payroll, managed in the Employee Self Service portal.

Who can apply

You must live and work in the US, including Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico, with US work authorization and a computer that meets ETS requirements. Applicants submit a resume and any relevant teaching certificates, then pass program certification and usually daily calibration tests. Work is part-time W-2 employment scheduled by your submitted availability, with sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET in cycles year-round, and application review can take up to 4 weeks. AP Readers now hire through Raise for College Board, not through this program.
