About eScribers
eScribers transcribes court hearings and legal proceedings and says it works with more than 1,000 contractors across the US. Independent contractors transcribe from home, and there are separate tracks for legal scopists and proofreaders and for digital court reporters in specific cities. Transcribers are paid by the page at unpublished rates, with bonus opportunities during the year. Payment is weekly by direct deposit after invoicing.
Who can apply
You must be legally eligible to work in the US and have a US bank account, a computer or tablet, high-speed internet and strong English punctuation; eScribers suggests aiming for 70+ WPM, and general applicants do not need prior experience. The current federal-contract Legal Transcriber posting is stricter, requiring US citizenship, a REAL ID or passport, a Public Trust background investigation, 2+ years of experience, 55+ WPM, Windows 10 or later, Microsoft Word, a foot pedal and 200 audio minutes a week. Applications go through a Greenhouse board that also lists on-site W-2 roles, so apply to the transcriber posting.
