About Avant Assessment
Avant Assessment is a language testing company in Eugene, Oregon that began as a University of Oregon spinout. Certified Avant Raters score the human-rated writing and speaking responses on Avant's proficiency tests, including STAMP, PLACE, the Arabic Proficiency Test and the Spanish Heritage Language test, using Avant's rubrics. Avant does not publish pay rates, payout method or timing. Its rater application is open, and the language menu currently lists Mandarin (Simplified) with a free-text field for other languages.
Who can apply
You need a bachelor's degree or higher and advanced or higher proficiency in the language, shown by being a native speaker, 18 or more months of immersion, a university major in the language, or TEFL for English. You must complete Avant's language-specific Rater Training Program, about 11 to 13 hours self-paced plus 2 to 3 hours with a trainer, and reach 90% agreement on the certification test. Raters commit to a weekly rating volume set by the language's Rating Manager, and Avant does not state whether raters are contractors or employees or which countries are eligible.
