Aligned is an expert network run by Aligned Labs Inc. in San Francisco that supplies human data to frontier AI labs, and it names OpenAI and Google as customers. Freelance subject matter experts, mostly PhDs and senior professionals, create prompts, evaluation rubrics, original training data and expert annotations, and work is assigned by email when a project matches their field. Experts set their own hourly rates, and Aligned's current listings show $50 to $130 an hour, such as $60 to $100 for PhD scientists and $100 to $130 for senior electrical engineers. Experts are paid for hours worked through Stripe every two weeks.

Who can apply

Most roles call for an advanced degree, 10 or more years of experience, teaching experience or a strong portfolio, and Aligned verifies your identity and credentials, including through your LinkedIn profile. You work as an independent contractor responsible for your own taxes, with no minimum hours. Aligned's job listings are open worldwide.
