Tasteocracy, run by SAM Sensory and Market Research, pays people to taste food and drinks and try personal care, household and pet products at a local test site, or to take products home and use them before answering a survey. Most tests pay around $40 an hour depending on type and length, and you get at least $25 if you are turned away at the site because a quota filled. Pay arrives as a virtual gift card (200+ options) within 48 business hours; bank transfer is optional with a 6% fee.

Who can apply

Testers are adults 18 to 65 who live or work near a test site in Plymouth (Minneapolis area), Livermore or Bound Brook; older adults are sometimes invited, and parents can register children 5 and up for some studies. You can have one account and usually take one test every 60 days.
