Jitsu (formerly AxleHire) is a package delivery company that works with independent drivers. You book delivery routes up to two days ahead in the Jitsu Drive app, pick up packages at a local Jitsu warehouse and deliver them in your own sedan, minivan or SUV. The app shows a pay range for each route before you book, and Jitsu mentions bonuses and tips. Routes completed Monday to Sunday are paid the following Wednesday, with an early-pay option in the app.

Who can apply

You must be 21 or older with a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle with registration, proof of insurance and a smartphone, and pass a background check. Markets include Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Washington, DC.
