About ACX

ACX is Amazon's audiobook marketplace, owned by Amazon and Audible. Narrators and studios create a profile, audition for books posted by authors and publishers, and then record, edit and master the finished audiobook for Audible, Amazon and Apple. Pay is negotiated with the author as a per-finished-hour rate, paid once the audiobook is finalized, or as a royalty share paid monthly from sales; some titles offer royalty share plus a stipend. Royalty share deals can pay little if the book does not sell.

Who can apply

Narrators must live in the US, UK, Canada or Ireland and have a mailing address, local taxpayer ID and bank account there. You need a dedicated space and the gear to record, edit and master audio that passes ACX audio standards and QA review, because the narrator is responsible for the finished audio. Joining is free.
